On your device

Jobs, time entries, rates, notes, tags, calculation preferences, and optional job coordinates are saved locally. Hourfield makes atomic saves and keeps 30 rolling backups. App locking controls access in the app; the files and exported backups are not encrypted by Hourfield. Your device account and its security settings protect local files.

Optional iCloud and Watch pairing

If you turn on iCloud pairing on Mac and iPhone or iPad under the same Apple Account, Hourfield syncs work records through your private CloudKit database. Each device saves locally first and can work offline. Turning pairing off stops further sync but does not delete data already in iCloud.

Apple Watch communicates with its paired iPhone through WatchConnectivity. When the phone is unavailable, Watch actions wait in a durable queue and are applied after the phone confirms them.

Access you choose

Mac CLI access is off until you enable Agent access. The CLI uses a private file queue for the same Mac user and asks the running, unlocked Hourfield app to handle each request. It has no network listener. A locked app blocks access through the app; locking does not encrypt the underlying files.

Location features are optional and off each launch. On Mac, configured job boundaries can be monitored while the app runs. On iPhone, location actions use foreground location; Hourfield does not track the phone in the background. System authentication handles Touch ID, Face ID, or device credentials; Hourfield does not receive your biometric data.

Exports, purchases, and support

You choose when and where to export or share files. Exported files are not encrypted by Hourfield, so review their destination before sharing. Hourfield has no ads, analytics, or custom account. Apple handles App Store purchases, and Hourfield verifies entitlements on the device.

If you email support, the message and any files contain only what you choose to send. The website does not receive your Hourfield records through normal app use.
